Learning and Development Specialist

The Learning and Development Specialist is responsible for the design and delivery of training, workshops, educational presentations, and leadership development training design for all business units with Fowler Construction Company Ltd.

This role is responsible for researching materials for creation of training, delivery of training content, as well as the management of the subject matter and course materials.

Key Duties:

  • Assess training needs through consultations with managers, surveys, interviews with employees (examining skill level, performance, and competency), company initiatives, and feedback provided from senior leadership team.
  • Gather and analyze information to design, develop, and deliver training programs that are efficient, effective, and have a positive impact on the organization.
  • Demonstrate an energetic attitude and deliver training initiatives for all levels within the organization and across all business units through a traditional classroom approach, one-on-one training, coaching, job shadowing, and/or through virtual training as required.
  • Create best practices around interactive learning that enhances learning enjoyment, engagement, skill development, knowledge retention and application.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness via testing, feedback, on the job performance, and impact, and ensure training is up to date with industry trends and best practices as they relate to learning and development.
  • Build and conduct Train-the-Trainer programs where necessary for the organization.
  • Recommend technology tools and platforms to support overall learning objectives.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling training/classes, training communication, monitoring training costs, and the tracking of required training and its completion for various roles within the organization.
  • Design and create resources for company-wide learning events and department meetings.
  • Research and apply for funding and complete COJG applications.
  • Support the new employee on-boarding process during new employee training and orientation.
  • Play a key role in Fowler’s internal mentorship, training, and succession planning program.
  • Support Human Resources initiatives and provide support as required as a member of the HR team.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 3-5 years in a HR Learning and Development Role
  • Post secondary education in HR, Teaching, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to create and design effective learning and development material.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to deliver training material in an engaging and effective manner.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices, training and development methods and adult learning theory.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform needs analysis/assessment and measure the effectiveness of training programs against learning outcomes.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in using various online learning platforms, presentation design software and Learning Management Software (LMS).
  • Certificate in Adult Learning, CAPM or PMP.
  • CHRP is considered an asset.

Education:

  • AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)

Experience:

  • Training & Development: 3 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • driver's license (preferred)
