Highway Maintenance Area Patrol Supervisor
Fowler Construction is seeking an Area Patrol Supervisor to direct, supervise, schedule and manage operations for the Huntsville Contractor Directed Maintenance Contract (CDMC) with the Ministry of Transportation.

Key Duties:
- Direct, manage, plan, and schedule patrollers and operators.
- Ensure positive interaction and maintain productive working relationships with office and technical staff, Ministry of Transportation (MTO) personnel, emergency services personnel, and the travelling public.
- Ensure patrollers and operators have the correct certifications and licenses to perform their work (e.g., AZ, DZ licenses, etc.), and have received all necessary training to meet skill level requirements for their positions.
- Manage recruitment, training, onboarding, conditions of employment, performance and disciplinary processes, and ongoing development of all staff under supervision.
- Investigate incidents that are reported by patrollers and take the necessary actions, ensuring accurate reporting, repair and follow through with the MTO.
- Communicate with the Project Manager regarding CDMC patrol risks and concerns.
- Oversee all sub-contractor work: managing and monitoring sub-contractors’ performance through regular on-site observation, reporting any concerns or issues to the project manager to ensure the work meets CDMC specifications and FCCL’s Quality Management Plan and Environmental Management Plan.
- Monitor Health, Safety, and Environment of work sites.
- Monitor all available weather information and support patrollers in the decision-making process.
- Manage Inventory and order materials for delivery to patrol yard.
- Complete numerous reports and documents, for FCCL and for the MTO.
- Maintain awareness of patrol route operations and conditions in the patrol yards; spot check yards to assess conditions and ensure compliance to the QMP and EMP/HSP.
- Coordinate road closures with emergency services, school boards, townships, municipalities, etc.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- A high commitment to personal safety and the safety of others.
- Previous experience in a managerial role preferred.
- Strong work ethic, and the ability to work cooperatively with a team.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license. DZ class license is recommended and preferred.
- Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed.
- Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Project, etc.).
- Capable of communicating effectively in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Strong organizational abilities with task prioritization and time management skills.
- Available for on-call duty and promptly respond to all emergencies.
Work Conditions:
- Travel to various sites/locations will be required.
- Must be available for on-call duty as an after-hours emergency responder.
- Indoor and outdoor environments in all weather conditions.
- Weekend and evening work may be required to meet the demands of the position.

Fowler Construction is seeking a 310T Mechanic or Apprentice to perform repairs and maintenance on heavy trucks, earth moving, and related construction equipment including road graders, gasoline and diesel-powered tractors, and dump trucks.

Key Duties:
- Conduct yourself in a professional and mature manner.
- Receive work assignments in the form of oral and written work orders and determine the nature and extent of needed repairs.
- Repair and adjust hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and any other necessary mechanical components.
- Inspect, repair, and adjust gasoline and diesel-powered units.
- Perform incidental welding operations on equipment.
- Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.
- Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes.
- Diagnose defects in heavy equipment.
- Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required.
- Operate automotive servicing equipment, e.g. A/C recycler, etc.
- Install new and added-on equipment.
- Perform electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics.
- Accurately complete work orders and timecards.
- Repair cooling, and lubrication systems.
- Install and align engines and machinery.
- Repair mechanical transmissions, drive-trains and final drives.
- Repair cable-operated working attachments, winches, compressors, pumps, electric generators, etc.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance.
- Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work.
- Instruct apprentices or receive instruction as an apprentice.
- Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
- Perform vehicle inspections as per CMVIS standards.
- Review and educate apprentice mechanics, or become familiar as an apprentice, of the safe operation of licensed vehicles as per CMVIS.
- Other mechanical repair work as required.
Qualifications:
- Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training is preferred.
- Appropriate credentials and certifications – 310T license, or apprentice.
- Computer literate or working towards computer literacy.
- Strong organizational skills with task prioritization, use of timelines and time management techniques, and clear communication abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Complete work with attention to detail to produce a quality product.
- Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed.
- Must be able to stand, lift 50 lbs., carry, bend, reach.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
Work Conditions:
- Work in a shop environment; travel to various sites may be required.
- Safety equipment will be required such as safety boots, hearing protection and safety glasses.
- Indoor and outdoor environments in various weather conditions.
- Weekend and overtime work may be required.
