Health & Safety Coordinator

Fowler Construction is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to work closely with the Manager of Health, Safety and Risk Management, as well as site supervisors, to provide support to field teams by identifying potential safety compliance issues through audits, hazard assessments and job site observations.

Key Duties:

  • Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis and review of safe work procedures.
  • Audit sites to ensure adherence to the company’s safety program by employees, visitors, and subcontractors.
  • Assist supervisors in the timely completion and submission of forms through SiteDocs.
  • Identify and provide positive behavior corrections for employees who are not following safety guidelines.
  • Provide guidance to field personnel via safety meetings / toolbox talks on site.
  • Counsel and support supervisors and H&S field representatives on a broad range of occupational safety issues.
  • Coordinate inspections, investigations, and occupational safety activities with departments.
  • Develop and submit monthly written reports to the Manager of Health, Safety and Risk Management based on site inspection findings, corrective actions issued and follow up.
  • Conduct weekly orientation training sessions for new employees.
  • Function as the lead auditor for COR.
  • Attend JHSC meetings.
  • Assist with corrective / preventative action meetings with site teams when necessary.
  • Provide vacation crossover for the Manager of Health, Safety and Risk Management.
  • Research personal protective equipment to ensure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the workplace.
  • Maintain inventory levels of PPE and safety supplies.
  • Manage SiteDocs and provide training and technical support for new and existing users.
  • Assist with training gap analysis and input training records into Vista database.
  • Assist with updating policies/manuals, SOPs and hazard identification.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Safety certification training (e.g., CRSP) is considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations is required.
  • Experience in construction, aggregates or road maintenance operations would be a definite asset.
  • Computer literate (Previous experience using SiteDocs is preferred).
  • Strong organizational skills with clear and persuasive communication abilities.
  • Helpful, friendly and courteous with the public, regulatory agencies and peers.
  • Must be able to work with little supervision and be self-directed.
  • Able to stand for long periods, walk up to 1 km, carry up to 25lbs.
  • Proficient with database applications and administration systems.
  • Must be a highly motivated, service-oriented team player with an attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for change and new initiatives.
  • Must be Joint Health and Safety Certified.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

Work Conditions:

  • 25-50% field work, 50-75% office work.
  • Travel to various sites will be required (vehicle or vehicle allowance will be provided).
  • Indoor and outdoor environments in various weather conditions.
  • Laptop and mobile phone will be provided
  • Overtime may be required to meet the demands of the position.
