Key Duties:

  • Schedule, organize, and direct the construction activities in accordance with the OHSA, FCCL’s H&S Policy and project requirements.
  • Instruct all job personnel in a clear, concise manner on all construction and safety aspects of the job when directing work tasks.
  • Work with the Project Manager to plan the work sequence using specifications, drawings, and site conditions for effective safety-conscious production.
  • Strive to maximize the profitability of each job by minimizing costs and motivating crew productivity.
  • Ensure that next day requirements for labour, equipment and supplies are ordered and communicated to the staff.
  • Complete work with attention to detail to produce a quality product.
  • Complete daily diary notes to document changes, direction and productions.
  • Maintain safe equipment operation on site and ensure the safety of all crew members.
  • Liaise with onsite inspectors, owners’ representatives, enforcement officers, and the public.
  • Complete the work in accordance with the applicable contract, contract drawings, specifications and budget.
  • Conduct yourself in a professional/mature manner.
  • Report on productions, payments and regular tracking on a daily basis to the Project Manager.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience working as a Construction Superintendent.
  • Professional designation (Gold Seal or P. Eng. or CET) is an asset but is not a requirement.
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, Project, etc.).
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work cooperatively with other staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

Work Conditions:

  • Travel to various sites will be required (vehicle will be provided).
  • Indoor and outdoor environments in various weather conditions.
  • Weekend and evening work may be required to meet the demands of the position.
  • Laptop and mobile phone will be provided.

Fowler Construction is seeking a 310T Mechanic or Apprentice to perform repairs and maintenance on heavy trucks, earth moving, and related construction equipment including road graders, gasoline and diesel-powered tractors, and dump trucks.

Key Duties:

  • Conduct yourself in a professional and mature manner.
  • Receive work assignments in the form of oral and written work orders and determine the nature and extent of needed repairs.
  • Repair and adjust hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and any other necessary mechanical components.
  • Inspect, repair, and adjust gasoline and diesel-powered units.
  • Perform incidental welding operations on equipment.
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes.
  • Diagnose defects in heavy equipment.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required.
  • Operate automotive servicing equipment, e.g. A/C recycler, etc.
  • Install new and added-on equipment.
  • Perform electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Accurately complete work orders and timecards.
  • Repair cooling, and lubrication systems.
  • Install and align engines and machinery.
  • Repair mechanical transmissions, drive-trains and final drives.
  • Repair cable-operated working attachments, winches, compressors, pumps, electric generators, etc.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work.
  • Instruct apprentices or receive instruction as an apprentice.
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
  • Perform vehicle inspections as per CMVIS standards.
  • Review and educate apprentice mechanics, or become familiar as an apprentice, of the safe operation of licensed vehicles as per CMVIS.
  • Other mechanical repair work as required.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training is preferred.
  • Appropriate credentials and certifications – 310T license, or apprentice.
  • Computer literate or working towards computer literacy.
  • Strong organizational skills with task prioritization, use of timelines and time management techniques, and clear communication abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Complete work with attention to detail to produce a quality product.
  • Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed.
  • Must be able to stand, lift 50 lbs., carry, bend, reach.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

  • Work in a shop environment; travel to various sites may be required.
  • Safety equipment will be required such as safety boots, hearing protection and safety glasses.
  • Indoor and outdoor environments in various weather conditions.
  • Weekend and overtime work may be required.
