Asphalt Raker

Fowler Construction is seeking an Asphalt Raker to support the paving operations, to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency, on one or more construction projects.

Key Duties:

  • Attend safety tailgate meetings.
  • Follow company Health and Safety Policy, workplace policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Wear appropriate PPE at all times.
  • Identify workplace hazards and report any hazards to the supervisor on the job site.
  • Inspect equipment and tools being used and report any defects to supervisor (always read the safe operating instructions manual before use).
  • Follow the instruction of supervisor.
  • Shovel and rake asphalt.
  • After receiving required training, safely operate the tail end of asphalt spreader and/or operate a plate packer.
  • Help with repairs/modifications on attaching implements.
  • Assist with traffic control flagging.
  • Spot for equipment and backing trucks, watch for hazards such as overhead wires, employees, and the public.
  • Conduct yourself in a professional and mature manner.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in the asphalt trade as a Raker.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment considered an asset.
  • Must have a strong work ethic, ensuring commitment to the team and the company.
  • Must be able to work in a safe manner and be accountable to the team for safe work practices.
  • Must be able to stand, lift 50 lbs, carry, bend, reach.
  • Must be available to work 55+ hours per week.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

Work Conditions:

  • Travel to various sites will be required.
  • Outdoor environments in various weather conditions.
  • Weekend, evening and nightshift work may be required to meet deadlines.

  • Monday to Friday

  • Bracebridge, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:

  • asphalt labour: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • driver's license (required)
